The state of Wisconsin does not allow yard waste in its landfills. The best thing you can do with your yard waste is compost it or use it as mulch at home. Grass clippings can be left on the lawn and will provide nutrients for your turf. Clippings and leaves also make excellent mulch in gardens and around flowers and shrubs.

City residents may drop off yard waste and brush at the self-service Yard Waste Drop-Off Site (4071 88th Avenue) free of charge. Between April-November drop-offs may be made Monday through Saturday, between 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. (except holidays). During the winter months (December-March) you may call 262-653-4070 (M-F, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.) to find out if the site will be open. The City accepts yard waste from City residents and residential property owners only; no commercial disposal is allowed and proof of residence is required.

Acceptable Yard Waste Preparation

  • Yard waste must be free of debris.
  • If yard waste is not in City-approved biodegradable bags (Biobag, Bag to Nature or Ecoguard), residents must de-bag their yard waste on their own.
  • Sod is accepted – separate from other yard waste – limit 1 can per visit
  • Brush is accepted in pieces up to 12' in length and 6" in diameter. It does not need to be bundled.
  • Residents must unload their own vehicles.
  • Wednesdays are Senior Citizen's/Disabled Person's Day – Additional staff will be available to help anyone who may need assistance.
  • Unacceptable items are: tree stumps, bush roots, wreaths, decorations, floral arrangements, food waste, pumpkins and wood chips

Free compost and wood chips may be available during normal business hours. Click here for more information.
