Kenosha Public Museums offer many cultural and educational activities throughout the year.

Here's a list of upcoming events at the Kenosha Public Museum:

Fettingis Three-Day Watercolor Workshop

Thursday, November 13, 2008 through Saturday, November 15, 2008; 9:30am-4pm

KPM is pleased to welcome back well-known watercolorist, Joe Fettingis, NWS, for a three day workshop entitled, "Color, Color and More Color." In this intensive three-day workshop, nationally acclaimed artist/teacher Joe Fettingis will focus on the control of color, composition, and techniques to bring students to a higher level of painting skill. Learn how to take the guesswork out of selecting and mixing watercolors as you begin a painting. Learn how to mix and apply colors, how to control moisture on your palette and brush, and how to create movement, balance, and unit in your painting. The workshop includes 5-6 small demonstrations each day and plenty of painting time.

This is a very popular workshop limited to 25 students, and early registration is strongly encouraged. The workshop cost is $165 and $140 for Friends of the Museum/Seniors. For more information and a supply list, called the Museum at 262-653-4140.

Mr. Fettingis is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and has been published in American Artist Magazine, Palette Talk and International Artist. He regularly lectures, demonstrates, and conducts workshops nationally and in Canada.

Sunday Funday - Native Americans

Sunday, November 16, 2008; 1:30pm-3:30pm

Kenosha Public Museum, 5500 First Avenue, Kenosha

Through a variety of activities, learn about Native Americans who lived in the forests, along the lakes, rivers and streams of the Eastern Woodlands. Find out what kinds of houses they lived in, what kinds of food they ate and how they had fun! Learn if the Native Americans of the Eastern Woodlands still live in Wisconsin today. A free event sponsored by the Friends of the Kenosha Public Museums.

Holiday Train Display

Friday, November 28, 2008 through January 31, 2009

This free, annual event is sponsored by the G-Scalers Model Train Club and is open to the public.

International Holiday Festival

Saturday, December 6, 2008; Noon-4pm

Crafts, music, food, and more are featured in the seventh annual salute to the holiday season. Watch food demonstrations and sample recipes of ethnic food specialties. Foods from around the world will be available for purchase at the International Food Court. Shop for that special holiday gift from one of the many ethnic artisans and crafters in the International Market. People will enjoy music performances throughout the day, while Kenosha Community Media records their holiday greetings to air on cable channel 14 during December. Children can make crafts, including a fanciful flake paper ornament, recycled ornaments, and a Mexican foil ornament.

Kenosha's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Saturday, December 6, 2008; 4pm
Fountain Plaza (56th Street and 2nd Avenue)

The Soul Sliders will perform holiday favorites, and Santa Claus will make a special appearance along with Mayor Keith Bosman. Two children's names will be drawn to help Santa and Mayor Bosman flip the switch to light the tree!

Retro Radio Holiday Revue

Saturday, December 13, 2008; Doors open at 12:30pm

Join RG Productions as they present a live Old Time Radio performance, featuring favorite performers Jack Benny, Mary Livingston, Bob Hope, George Burns and Gracie Allen, and moire. The show includes sound effects and live music from the '40s from Glen Miller to the Andrew Sisters. The Melodaires will provide Swing Music and pre-show entertainment. The performance is free and open to the public.

Kwanzaa Celebration

Sunday, December 14, 2008; Noon-4pm

Learn about the seven principles and symbols of this African American holiday tradition. Children's activities from Noon to 1pm include making a Mkeka mat stamped with Adinkra symbols, coloring sheets, and puzzles. The Kwanzaa program from 1:30pm to 2:30pm is followed by a sampling of Kaaramu, traditional holiday food, from 3pm to 4pm.

Frost Fest / Winter Wonderland

Sunday, December 28, 2008; 1pm-4pm

In this free, drop-in program for children with an adult, learn what animals do in the winter. Create a winter journal and make bird treats to help our feathered friends. Develop a chart of animal tracks to see which animals are visiting your neighborhood. The program is free and open to the public.

Frost Fest / Kwanzaa Fun

Monday, December 29, 2008; 1pm-4pm

Learn the values and symbols of Kwanzaa during this free drop-in program for children with an adult. Participants can make a Kwanzaa mobile, a corn pin, and a candle filled with candy treats. They can also play African musical instruments.

Frost Fest / Ring in the New Year

Tuesday, December 30, 2008; 1pm-4pm

Get ready for New Year's Eve by making a crown and noisemaker. Participants can also decorate a 2009 wall calendar to take home. This free, drop-in program is open to children with an adult.

Peter V. Bianchi Artists Studio

The Kenosha Public Museum is pleased to host guest artists in the Artists Studio. Artists are invited into the studio to demonstrate and share their artistic expertise. Museum visitors can watch as the work of art evolves and interact with the arts in an informal setting. The Artists Studio is located in the Fine Art Gallery on the second floor of the Museum. Demonstrations are free and open to the public. Drop in anytime during the announced hours.

2008-2009 Travelogues

Celebrate 72 years of armchair travel entertainment! Ten professionally narrated digital film features are presented each season. Programs begin at 7:30pm Friday evenings at Reuther Auditorium, Sheridan Road and 58th Street, Kenosha. Doors open at 6:45pm. Admission is free; seating is unreserved. Travel patrons and youth travelers can pick up a "Passport" and collect a different sticker at each Travelogue.
