Dino Digs
A free program for the aspiring young paleontologist. Dino Digs are offered from 1- 4 p.m. on the following dates: Friday, January 27, Wednesday, February 8, Friday, March 30.
Sunday Fundays
Free drop-in programs for adults with children. Activities are offered at the Dinosaur Discovery Museum and Kenosha Public Museum. Sponsored by the Friends of the Museums.
Be a Paleontologist
Febraruy 19, 2012; 1-4pm
Find out what tool paleontologists use to excavate fossils. Dig for bone and write a report about what you find. Examine jacketed dinosaur fossils from the Dinosaur Discover Museum collection.
Flying Reptiles
March 18, 2012; 1-4pm
Pterodactyls and pteranodons weren't dinosaurs but they ruled the skies while dinosaurs roamed below. Learn about these and other flying reptiles. Measure their wingspans and make a pterosaur mobile.
Ancient Climates
April 22, 2012; 1-4pm
Celebrate Earth Day with the Dinosaurs! Discover how the movement of Earth's plates created different continents and different climates. Use a paper plate to make a prehistoric map of the Earth!
On the Trail of a Dinosaur
May 20, 2012; 1-4pm
Learn about dinosaur trackways, footprints and other cool trace fossils. Make your own trackway and create your own fossil footprint!
Spring Dinosaur Lecture Series
Join us this Spring for an exciting series of lectures! Meant to inspire and inform, these talks are fun for the whole family and are great for both the amateur fossil hunter and budding paleontologist alike.
The Evolution of Flight

The ability of flight has been gained by three separate groups of vertebrates, three different and unrelated times. Ever wondered how that happened? Discuss with DDM Curator of Education, Nick Wiersum, the mechanics behind flight evolution and these amazing groups of animals.
Dinosaur Reconstruction
April 18 2012, 6-7:30 with Dave Lovelace, UW-Madison Researcher
Once paleontologists find a skeleton, what happens next? How do they know how to put the skeleton together? How do they know what they looked like fleshed out? University of Wisconsin-Madison doctoral candidate, Dave Lovelace, discusses the science of reconstructing dinosaurs, with an emphasis on the new data on dinosaur colors from fossilized feathers.
From Fossilization to the Lab

Have you ever been curious about what actually happens at the Carthage Institue of Paleontology? How are the bones prepared? What happens with the material paleontologist collect in the summer? Come and listen to Dr. Megan Seitz discuss what happens in the lab and during the Carthage College field season.

Dinosaur Family Reunion

Come and meet living relatives of the dinosaurs! Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab & Education will be at the museum with a dozen dino descendants. Learn about hawks, owls, and falcons and even see how you measure up to a bald eagle! Lots of hands- on activities too!
