CITY DEPARTMENTS : PERSONNEL : GENERAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION/BENEFITS

General Information

Residency shall include the following areas: Kenosha County, Racine County, except the Town of Waterford (the Village of Waterford is acceptable), Franklin, Oak Creek and South Milwaukee.
  • All new employees are hired through the Personnel Department with the exception of the Library.
  • New positions, promotions, transfers and vacancies are recruited for via advertising, networking, the job line, website or mailings.
  • Interested applicants' applications are collected and reviewed by the Personnel Department, and the selection process is conducted to determine the most qualified individuals for the positions. The selection process may take the form of a written, performance, oral and/or other exams the Personnel Department deems as appropriate. A number of top ranking applicants are certified to the hiring department and the final interviews are conducted by that department.
  • When an individual is hired off a certified list, the individuals not hired are put on an "eligibility list", and in most cases that list remains in effect for one year. If another vacancy occurs for the same job classification, individuals are considered and hired off the eligibility list until it expires.
