ABSENTEE VOTING PROCEDURES


If you are not already registered, you will need to register to vote before an absentee ballot can be sent to you.

New in 2012: The new Voter ID law is effective for all elections beginning in 2012. Voters MUST bring an acceptable photo ID with them to vote absentee or enclose a photocopy with their request. There are a few exceptions where absentee voters do not have to provide photo ID, such as permanent absentee voters that are indefinitely confined due to age or illness or those registered voters that are voting absentee from nursing homes.


IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING: Absentee Ballots Ballots are available in the City Clerk's office for the two full work-weeks immediately preceding any election (Monday – Friday, 8AM – 4:30 PM) for In-Person Absentee Voting. There is no longer in-person absentee voting on the Monday before Election Day.


REQUEST BALLOT IN WRITING: Download and complete the Application For Absentee Ballot (GAB-121) or provide a written request that should include the election date(s), your name, your address, your signature and the address the ballot should be mailed to AND a photocopy of an acceptable form of voter identification. Ballots may be requested for specific election dates, all elections during the calendar year, or every subsequent election (for those voters that certify that they are indefinitely confined due to age or illness). The application must be received by the clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before the election in order for an absentee ballot to be mailed to you.

      Fax or email the request to: (262) 653-4023 or clerk@kenosha.org. You may request a ballot via email or fax without photo identification. However, before the ballot can be counted on election day, the municipal clerk must have received both a photocopy of an acceptable form of voter identification and a request from the voter with an original signature. (Print your emailed request, sign it, and return it with your ballot, but outside the certified ballot envelope.)

DEADLINE FOR RETURNING BALLOT: The completed ballot must be received by the municipal clerk no later than the day of the election so that it can be delivered to the polling location by 8 p.m.
