Two Michigan Cavalry Privates

Two cavalry privates from the Lansing, Michigan area strike a standing pose for this image. Both men wear nine-button cavalry shell jackets and sword belts with the rectangular non-commissioned officer belt plate, but the man on the left conforms to military regulations by buttoning the top button of the coat. The soldier on the left also displays a pistol in his belt which may have been a prop provided by the photo studio. Both hold cavalry sabers with metallic scabbards attached to their sword belts.
