"I Had My Likeness Taken" Slideshow

Slide #4 A very clear image of two Union cavalry troopers who posed together to have their images taken. They are unidentified so there is no way to know if they were related or simply friends who posed together to save money. Both are equipped in a like manner with tall, floppy bummer caps, shell jackets, bow ties, and civilian belts with guns and knives--probably props supplied by the photo studio--stuffed into them. Gilding has been applied to highlight the hat adornments, buttons, and rings of both men. Subtle differences between the two are the reversed metallic company letter "K" on the hat on the soldier on the right and the rolled cuffs on the jacket of the soldier on the left. Also, one soldier wears sky blue pants while the other a darker shade of blue. |
