Slide #12
Unidentified Infantry Private

A Union infantry private in a nine button frock coat and kepi armed with a smoothbore musket. On his waist belt is an oval 'US' belt plate, a cap box, and leather scabbard for a bayonet. A cartridge box is suspended from a leather belt across his chest with an eagle breast plate attached.

The photo is backmarked with the following, "Photographed by Truesdell, Main St., Kenosha, Wis." and was probably taken during the middle part of the war. It is quite probable that the soldier served with Company I of the 33rd Wisconsin which was raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
